FIRST WINTER STORM OF THE SEASON BRINGS A GOOD DOSE OF RAIN AND
SOME ACCUMULATING SNOW….
The region’s first winter storm of the season arrived yesterday
morning bringing mainly rain to Blue Hill, but it did change to
a period of snow late last night leaving 0.6″ of accumulation on
the summit. Total liquid precipitation for the event was 0.91″,
so it was a very good dose of water. Despite this, we are still
running a 3.45″ deficit for the year.
Today is featuring much better weather with sunshine mixed with
increasing clouds.
Temperatures are still on the cold side however with readings
rising from the upper 20s early this morning to the mid 30s by
early this afternoon. This is still below normal for early
December. Dew point values are holding in the mid to mid to
upper 20s, adding to the chilly feel of the air.
The wind has been generally northwesterly today. It was stronger
during the predawn hours, but has been decreasing as the day
progresses. The average speed for the day so far is around 13mph.
The peak gust for the day so far is 29mph, which occurred just
before 5am this morning.
Visibility was around 40 miles early this morning, but has
improved to around 60 miles.
The maximum temperature so far today is 37F degrees, which is
7 degrees below the normal high of 44F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 28F degrees, which is 1 degree below the
normal low of 29F.
