FIRST MEASURABLE FROZEN PRECIP LAST EVENING FROM SLEET, MILD BUT
BLUSTERY TODAY….
We had our first measurable frozen precipitation of the season
last evening as sleet was mixed with the rain for the first
hour and a half after the onset of the precipitation. 0.1″ of
sleet was able to accumulate before changing to all rain just
after 9pm. Rain continued into the very early morning hours
of this morning with a total of 0.56″ of water measured in the
gauge.
Once the rain ended just after 4am this morning, clouds quickly
broke allowing for some sunshine this morning. However, as day-
time heating takes place along with increasing cold air advection,
clouds have once again filled the sky by late this morning and
into early this afternoon. Some showers have also developed from
all the instability.
Temperatures warmed into the low 50s by late this morning, but
are starting to fall off a bit early this afternoon thanks to
the cold air advection. Dew points values that held in the mid
40s all morning, are not dropping into the low 30s early this
afternoon.
The wind has also picked up quite a bit thanks to the above
mentioned cold air advection. A westerly wind has increased
from around 10mph this morning to 20-30mph by early this
afternoon. Gusts have increased in frequency and intensity as
we pushed into the late morning hours. Values have been regularly
exceeding 40mph. The peak gust for the day so far is 48mph, which
occurred after 12:30pm.
Visibility has continued to improve as the day progressed. We
started with about 25 miles and finished at around 70 miles by
early this afternoon.
The maximum temperature so far today is 52F degrees, which is
2 degrees above the normal high of 50F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 37F degrees, which is 3 degrees above the
normal low of 34F.
