FIRST FROZEN PRECIP OF THE SEASON TODAY! ANOTHER BREEZY
AND CHILLY DAY ON THE TOP OF GREAT BLUE HILL….
This morning we started the day with a beautiful sunrise
and mostly clear skies. By the late morning we had
increasing clouds and virga in the distant west. The system
quickly moved through our area around 11am and brought our
first frozen precipitation for the season in the form of
sleet! Even though our temperatures were above freezing,
the air above was much colder, allowing for this to occur.
Temperatures have held pretty steady in the mid to upper
40’s for much of the day, mostly in part to the increasing
cloud cover. Our high of 50F occurred at midnight. This is
slightly below average for this time of year. The dew point
has remained in the lower 30’s, really bringing a chill to
the air as cold air advection continues to have a hold over
the region.
The wind has been active for yet another day. This month so
far we have averaged around 16mph each day which is quite a
gusty start to November. Today has featured a quite strong
west-northwest wind for much of the day. Winds were highest
in the early morning hours and have decreased slightly since,
though it hasn’t felt like it. We have had frequent gusts in
the 25-30 mph range during the late morning hours. The average
so far today is holding around 18mph. The peak gust so far for
the day is 47mph, which occurred just after 2:30am this morning.
Visibility has been around 70 miles for much of the day.
During the early afternoon when the precipitation moved through
we were at arouund 50 miles.
The maximum temperature so far today is 50F degrees, which is
4 degrees below the normal high of 54F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 40F degrees, which is 3 degrees above the
normal low of 37F.
