DAY 3 OF THE HEAT-WAVE MAKES IT OUR FIRST OFFICIAL ONE OF 2025;
TODAY’S RECORD MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE SHATTERED….

Sunshine is unrelenting today as the heat ridge is cresting over
the region creating a very warm and dry air mass aloft. Even with
temperatures reaching the upper 90s, what small cumulus that do
happen to form, dissipate just about as quickly as they develop.
This is due to the very warm air (relative to normal) aloft as
well, keeping the atmosphere capped.

Temperatures quickly warmed well into the 90s by late this morning
after starting the day in the mid to upper 70s. The record high for
today’s date was already beaten just after 9am this morning, and
shattered before noon. The previous record for day was 91F, which
was set back in 1914, 1976, and 2013. So far the temperature has
reached 99F degrees, which also ties the highest temperature ever
recorded in June. The previous occurrence occurred on June 4, 1919!

Adding to the misery are dew point values which have thankfully
dropped from the mid 70s early this morning to around 70 by
early this afternoon. Regardless, the combination of these values
with the high temperatures are yielding heat index values of
around 105F. Definitely use extreme caution if doing any physical
activity outdoors today. Once again, an Excessive Heat Warning is
in effect until 8pm this evening.

A westerly wind has been averaging at around 10mph for the day so
far, however it’s not offering any kind of relief. The peak gust so
far for the day is 22mph, which occurred just after 12pm this
afternoon.

The visibility is somewhat limited again today by haze. The view
has been between 25-40 miles all day.

The maximum temperature for today is 99F degrees, which is 21
degrees above the normal high of 78F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 76F degrees, which is 16 degrees above the normal low
of 60F.
