MORE RAIN AND DRIZZLE THIS MORNING, THEN A BURST OF SNOW WITH
THE FRONTAL PASSAGE; BECOMING WINDY….
The dreary weather continued through this morning with periods
of drizzle and light rain. Amounts were on the light side with
0.17″ falling for the 24 hours ending at 8am. An additional 0.05″
of liquid precipitation fell between 7am-1pm. As the cold front
moved through just after 11am, the rain quickly changed to a
burst of moderate to heavy snow which lasted just under 20
minutes. However it came down hard enough to accumulate to 0.1″
on the snow board, despite the temperature being in the mid 30s.
This now makes the second year in a row where we only had a
trace of snow in March, and measurable snow in April.
The wind immediately picked up as well following the frontal
passage, going from light speeds to gusting over 30mph instantly.
The temperature did briefly make it to 40F just ahead of the
front, then quickly dropped back to the low to mid 30s during the
burst of snow. Readings have recovered slightly to the upper 30s
early this afternoon. Nonetheless, today will go in the books as
a below normal temperature day.
Winds were quite light this morning, even going calm for a time.
However, as mentioned above, speeds have increased markedly since
the frontal passage shifting from the south-southwest to the west-
northwest. The average speed for the day so far is around 7mph,
however the average over the past couple of hours have been closer
to 15-20mph. Gusts over 30mph have become common early this afternoon
with a peak so far of 36mph, occurring at 12:47pm.
Visibility was quite limited early this morning with the dense fog,
but has improved quite a bit with the end of the precipitation,
with the view around 60 miles early this afternoon.
The maximum temperature for today is 40F degrees, which is 13 degrees
below the normal high of 53F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 33F degrees, which is 2 degrees below the normal low of 35F.
