ARCTIC AIR MASS MOVES IN ON THE HEELS OF WINTER STORM….
It looks like a winter wonderland up here on Great Blue Hill yet
again, and with the arctic air mass moving into place, it certainly
feels it too. Precipitation began here as rain yesterday evening,
before changing fully over to snow by 8pm. Snow continued into the
early morning hours, though by then the intensity was rather light.
Snowfall accumulated 5.7″, which brings our season total to exactly
20.0″. The liquid equivalent precipitation was 0.59″.
Temperatures dropped steadily through the overnight, and despite the
current abundant sunshine, they have struggled to rise. The low of 13F
occurred around 7:30am, and since we have only made it to the low 20s
by the final observation. The high occurred just after midnight. The dew
point dropped through the night but has remained steady in the low teens
for the past few hours.
There is a decent breeze out of the west-northwest, helping to advect
the arctic air in our direction. The average speed for the day so far
is 14mph. Our peak gust is 31mph, occurring at 4:44am and again at
6:32am.
Visibility was initially hindered by some thin fog as the storm departed,
but with clearing skies and dry air views are currently up to 70 miles.
The maximum temperature for today is 27F degrees, which is 7 degrees
below the normal high of 34F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 13F degrees, which is 5 degrees below the normal low of 18F.
