VERY FINE WEATHER ON THIS PATRIOT’S DAY WITH WARM TEMPERATURES….

It’s been a splendid day here atop Blue Hill with a mix of sun
and clouds, a gentle breeze, and much above normal temperatures.

Temperatures have warmed into the lower 70’s early this afternoon.
This is the first 70 degree reading of the year so far. In contrast,
we had already had 2 days with a high of 88F by this time last year
(4/13 and 4/14), which were each record highs. It’s always amazing
to see how much difference there can be from year to year. The dew
point has been holding in the 40s, so it’s a very comfortable feel
to the air today.

The wind was gentle this morning as we observed light wind speeds.
It has picked up in the last hour or so as the atmosphere starts to
really mix. Gusts have reached the 30mph mark just in time for the
1pm observation with a peak gust thus far of 32mph. The average
speed for the day so far is around 8mph, but is increasing for now.

Visibility has been a bit limited to 40-50 miles today due to
haziness. The haziness is due to mainly tree pollen, but the slight
bit of moisture in the air is also contributing.

The maximum temperature so far today is 71F degrees, which is 15
degrees above the normal high of 56F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 43F degrees, which is 5 degrees above the normal low
of 38F.
