SUNSHINE THROUGH HIGH CLOUDS, BUT WINDY AND CHILLY FOR MOTHER’S DAY….
Not an ideal day for any outdoor plans with mom today, but at
least the sun is shining! Always have to focus on the positive.
Despite the sun, the air is quite chilly with readings generally
in the upper 40s and lower 50s. To add insult to injury, the
wind is once again blowing pretty good out of mainly an east-
northeasterly direction.
The average speed for the day has been around 18mph with a peak
gust of 43 mph.
The air is also quite dry with the dew point dropping below the
freezing mark early this afternoon. This dry air along with the
gusty wind is enhancing the fire risk once again today and as a
matter of fact, for the second Sunday in a row, we have another
rather large brush fire taking place about 3 miles to our east
within the Blue Hill Reservation. The smoke plume was dense enough
that visibility was restricted to 3 miles for a time in that
direction.
Otherwise visibility has been pretty decent today, increasing
from 40 miles early this morning to 60 miles by late morning.
The high so far today is 51F, which is 14 degrees below the
normal maximum of 65F. The low since midnight is 42F, which
is 4 degrees below the normal minimum of 46F.
