WARMER TEMPERATURES AND INCREASED WINDS WITH MORNING RAIN AND FOG…

This morning, temperatures rose to 41F at the 7:00 A.M. EST observation, which was 15F above what it was at the same time yesterday morning (26F). However, the temperature did not go much higher by 1:00 P.M.. A maximum of 42F was reached so far for today, which is 7F above the normal temperature for this time of year of 35F. This warmer air was brought in with a low pressure system, which also gave us increased winds today. The peak gust so far was 35 MPH out of the east at 6:29 A.M. this morning.

Last night and into early this morning, temperatures were still cold enough to bring some frozen precipitation to the region in the form of snow and sleet. An estimated 0.3 ins. of frozen precipitation fell at Great Blue Hill, but it melted soon after. Rain continued to fall overnight until shortly after the 10:00 A.M. observation. This storm gave us a total of 0.36 ins. of liquid precipitation.

Visibility was poor to start the day with the rain, drizzle, and fog. At 10:00 A.M., a few minutes before the rain stopped, visibility was only 1/8 of a mile and the sky was obscured by fog. However, over the next few hours, the fog lifted and the sun began to shine through breaks in the clouds. By 1:00 P.M., the visibility dramatically increased to 60 miles.
