August 2013 Summary:
Overall, the month was mostly dry with abundant sunshine, and it was much cooler than July. The 24-hour mean temperature for August of 68.8F was slightly warmer than the 120-year average, though it was slightly cooler than the recent 30-year normal for August. There were no 90-degree days during the month, and the maximum temperature was 87F on the 21st. The coolest temperature was 53F on 15th. The month was generally dry with only 2.72 inches of precipitation, which was more than an inch less than average, though most of this rainfall (2.21 inches) fell in a single day on the 9th. There was only a single thunderstorm day during the month on the 22nd, and there was no precipitation associated with this storm. Bright sunshine for the month totaled 65 percent, which was well above the mean for August of 58 percent. Summer 2013 (June, July August) was the 10th warmest on record with a mean temperature of 69.8F, and it was the eighth wettest summer on record with a rainfall total of 17.92 inches.
