HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS TODAY AS A MULTI-DAY HEAT-WAVE ARRIVES….
Skies started the day with a deck of mid level clouds, which
were the leftovers of overnight convection from upstate New
York. Skies quickly cleared by mid morning which allowed the
temperature to really start climbing.
Temperatures reached the low to mid 90s by early this afternoon
and have since pushed solidly into the mid 90s. The dew point
has also risen, now into the low 70s making for oppressive
conditions. The combination of the two has pushed the heat
index over 100F this afternoon.
To make matters worse, the wind, which was steady during the
morning, has dropped off to very light speeds this afternoon.
A general westerly flow is averaging at around 11mph for the
day so far, but has been closer to 4-5mph over the last couple
of hours. The peak gust for the day so far is 23mph, which
occurred just before 2am this morning.
Visibility has once again been limited today due to haziness.
The view has been holding between 30-35 miles through the day.
The maximum temperature so far today is 94F, which is 14 degrees
above the normal high of 80F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 68F, which is 6 degrees above the normal low of 62F.
As we close out June, we have some stats provided by our Chief
