STORMY DAY IN PROGRESS ON BLUE HILL WITH PERIODS OF RAIN AND STRONG
WINDS….
Freezing drizzle last evening finally became just plain drizzle
between 9-10pm last night as the temperature finally rose above the
freezing mark. Drizzle became rain by 1am, and has continued at
varying intensities since. 0.14″ of rain fell overnight into early
this morning, with an additional 0.55″ falling between 7am and 1pm
today. heavier rain is currently approaching the area and will be
falling here through the afternoon.
Temperatures have warmed considerably today with values in the upper
50s by early this afternoon. The dew point is matching the air
temperature, so the air is of course saturated.
Winds have been increasing through the morning and into early this
afternoon. Speeds are sustained over 30mph at the 1pm observation
with gusts near 50mph. The average speed for the day so far is around
16mph. The peak gust so far occurred just after the 1pm observation
at a value of 51mph. Gusts are expected to exceed 60mph here on the
summit later this afternoon, and especially during the evening hours.
Visibility was greatly limited this morning with only 1/16th of a
mile being observed. However, as the cloud deck raised, the view has
improved to around 12 miles at the 1pm observation, but it has varied
due to periods of rain, down to 2-3 miles at times.
The maximum temperature for today is 59F degrees, which is 18 degrees
above the normal high of 41F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 36F degrees, which is 10 degrees above the normal low of 26F.
We will be watching for some possible records for today. The records
that may be close to tying or broken are..
Maximum Temperature; record value is 63F set in 1911
Precipitation; record value is 2.36″ set in 1992
Peak Gust; record value is 78mph S set in 1969
Stay tuned!
