BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA

DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 1, 2020
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME

SOME BREAKS OF SUNSHINE THIS MORNING LEAD TO
AN OVERCAST AFTERNOON….

Despite traces of snow falling in the greater Boston area
this morning, the observatory did not receive any. Today
began mostly cloudy, becoming fully overcast by noontime.
Wind is northeasterly, with a max gust so far of 27 mph.
Pressure has been on a steady decline this morning, while
temperatures have stayed relatively cool.

Visibility has been gradually improving through the day, starting
at 30 miles early this morning, increasing to 80 miles early this
afternoon.

Our high temperature so far today is 40F, which is 10 degrees
lower than our daily normal high temperature of 50F. The low
since midnight is 28F, which is 4 degrees below the daily
normal low of 32F.

A note of interest, yesterday and today mark the 23 year
anniversary of the April Fools blizzard on March 31 – April 1,
1997. 15.0″ of snow was recorded on each day bringing a storm
total of 30″. The amazing part is that most of that fell in a
12-hour period! We had very impressive periods of heavy snow
accompanied by many bouts of thundersnow. At times snowfall
rates were as high as 4 inches per hour. Remarkable for so
late in the season!
