THE NOR’EASTER FINALLY MOVES OUT, RAIN ENDS BUT CLOUDS REMAIN….
The nor’easter is finally gone and has mercifully taken the rain
with it. However, a lot of clouds have been left behind with
mainly overcast skies once again today. There have been a couple
of faint rays of sun, but they were merely a cruel tease. The
persistent onshore wind has also come to an end with a much
lighter northwest flow in the wake of the storm.
The total rainfall for the storm ended up being a whooping 9.23″.
This helped to push the monthly rainfall total to 11.49″. This
now ranks as the 2nd Wettest September on record going back to
1885. Here are the rankings.
BHO Wettest Septembers, inches (1885-2026):
1) 12.37 1999
2) 11.49 2026 (thru 7am EST 9/29)
3) 11.04 1933
4) 10.23 1896
5) 10.00 1961
6) 9.62 1987
7) 9.58 1888
8) 9.36 1918
9) 9.25 2018
10) 8.81 1907
Temperatures are a bit warmer today than it has been the past
few days. Readings have reached the low 60s early this afternoon.
Dew points have remained elevated as well keeping the air nearly
saturated despite the lifting of the fog and ending of the drizzle.
A northwest to north-northwest wind has been the theme today,
albeit on the light side. The average speed for the day so far
is a much more reasonable 8mph. The peak gust for the day so far
is 20mph, which occurred just after midnight.
Visibility was still very limited early this morning, but has
improved markedly by mid to late morning. The view went from
around 1/4 of a mile early this morning to 60-70 miles by late
this morning and early this afternoon.
The maximum temperature so far today is 63F, which is 5 degrees
below the normal high of 68F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 52F, which is 1 degree above the normal low of 51F.
