DECREASING CLOUDINESS BUT REMAINING COLD….
Skies have been clearing as the day has progressed. We began with a
broken layer of altocumulus and altostratus this morning, with some
virga to our north. This, combined with a clearing to the east,
provided for a fantastic sunrise. Since then, the clouds have become
much less abundant, providing us with plentiful sunshine.
This comes as no surprise, but it is cold out there! We began the morning
in the low 20s and have since made it only to the mid 30s. At least today
we have exceeded the freezing mark, which did not happen at all yesterday.
The dew point has been slowly rising through the upper teens and lower 20s.
Winds have been on the light side, so the wind chill is not as harsh as
yesterday either. Our average speed so far is 11mph, mostly out of the west.
The peak gust occurred just around 12:30pm, with a value of about 24mph.
With the dry air, visibility has been good all day, ranging from 50-60 miles.
The maximum temperature for today is 36F degrees, which is 7 degrees
below the normal high of 43F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 22F degrees, which is 5 degrees below the normal low of 27F.
