ABUNDANT SUNSHINE AND HUMID WITH WARMING TEMPERATURES….
Hazy sunshine has been the theme today with some cirrus clouds
moving through this morning, and cumulus popping up by early
this afternoon. A thin smoke layer was observed early this
morning as wild-fire smoke from out west is riding up and
over the massive ridge over the central U.S. then down into
New England on a northwest flow aloft. A big brush fire also
developed within the reservation to the east-northeast. The
smoke from that fire is being blown toward the Observatory
on the onshore flow.
Temperatures have warmed into the low to mid 80s early this
afternoon despite the wind coming off the ocean. The dew point
was in the mid 60s this morning making it feel rather humid.
However, with some mixing from aloft despite the “sea-breeze”,
the dew point has dropped into the upper 50s this afternoon.
The wind was light through the morning, but has picked up some
this afternoon. As mentioned, the flow has become more easterly
as the day has progressed. The average speed for the day so
far is around 9mph. The peak gust for the day so far is 18mph
which occurred just before 2:30am this morning.
Visibility has been limited today due to haziness, mainly from
the smoke. The view has been holding between 30-35 miles all
day.
The maximum temperature so far today is 83F, which is 3 degrees
above the normal high of 80F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 62F, which is equal to the normal low of 62F.
