HEAT WAVE REACHES DAY 5 HERE ON THE HILL, RECORD HEAT AGAIN….

The hot and humid weather continues, with today marking the 5th
consecutive day of the current heat wave. Today marks yet
another day where the mercury eclipsed 95F degrees with a high
thus far of 96F. This sets a new record for the day beating the
old record of 93F established in 1909 and 1949.

Adding insult to injury, the dew point has been in the low 70s
all day, creating heat index values between 97F and 103F! The
number of days of this high heat is starting to get to most
people at this point. This is the second heat-wave of five days or
more in just a three-week period of time.

As mentioned yesterday, we’ve been setting or tying some records
during this stretch. Here they are…

8/4: High max of 96F, this beat the old record of 95F set in 1928
8/6: High max of 95F, this tied the record with 1931
High min of 72F, this tied the record with 1918 and 1924
8/7: High max of 96F, this beat the old record of 95F set in 1924
High min of 73F, this tied the record with 2018
8/8: High max of 96F (so far), this beat the old record of 93F
set in 1909 and 1949
High min of 75F (so far), this beat the old record of 74F
set in 2001

While the heat is of course a big deal here, the other big story
is the lack of rainfall. We did manage to pick up 0.08″ last
evening thanks to a passing thunderstorm, however the yearly
deficit has now reached 10.30″ below normal. We continue to be
in a severe drought.

The high so far today is 96F, which is 15 degrees above the normal
maximum of 81F. The low since midnight is 75F, which is 11 degrees
above the normal minimum of 64F.
