BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2013 ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME THURSDAY LATE P.M. T-STORM, FRIDAY A.M. SHOWERS BRING 0.64 INCH OF RAIN; COOLER AND MUCH CALMER TODAY A thunderstorm began between the 10 & 11 o’clock hours EDT Thursday evening, producing a peak wind gust on the summit of 32 mph and rainfall of 0.47 inch. Additional light rain showers this morning added another 0.17 inch or precipitation. The summit began the day in the fog, with visibility down to 1/4 mile at times. Soon after the 8 A.M. EDT observation, the fog began dissipating and the cloud base began to lift as an area of light rain exited eastern MA. This afternoon, visibility has improved to a hazy 45 miles. There have been periods of sunshine this afternoon, too, which has helped develop some towering cumulus and even a few downpours across the area. Winds have been rather light today, even calm at times. We seem to be in a lull awaiting a cold front that should finally move through later today, bringing with it a cooler and much drier air mass for the weekend. Today’s Observations: 7 A.M.
