HAZY, VERY WARM, AND HUMID UNDER MAINLY SUNNY SKIES TODAY…
A severe thunderstorm rolled across the hill early yesterday
evening bringing with it strong wind gusts. An official gust
of 61mph (53kts) WNW was recorded at 5:14pm. Frequent lightning
and a brief period of heavy rain also accompanied the storm.
Total rainfall from the storm was only 0.43″, but this did
bring the monthly total to over 8.50″, which is over 5.50″ above
normal to date.
The peak gust set a new record peak wind gust for the date,
beating the old record of 47 mph ENE set back in 1984.
Today has been much quieter with abundant sunshine and only some
scattered cumulus clouds this afternoon. The temperature has
reached the upper 80s. So far, we have not recorded a 90F this
week, despite forecasts calling for low to mid 90s. As such,
there has not been, nor will there be a heatwave here at Blue
Hill this week.
The dew point continues to hover around the 70F degree mark,
making for a rather uncomfortable feel out there today. It is
also pushing the heat index into the low 90s, so while it hasn’t
reached 90F the last couple of days, it certainly has felt like
it.
The wind has been on the lighter side today with an average speed
of only around 8mph. The peak gust so far today has only been
around 20mph, occurring just after 7am this morning.
Visibility has been limited today due to haziness from the high
humidity levels. We’ve only been able to see 20-30 miles all
day.
The maximum temperature so far today is 87F, this is 5 degrees
above the normal high of 82F. The minimum temperature today is
68F, which is 4 degrees above the normal low of 64F.
