This report is an updated summary of the extensive annual and seasonal climate records of the Blue Hill Observatory that also documents the changes that have occurred in several key parameters over the entire period of record.   This document is also available as a downloadable PDF file.     

2020 Summary – Second Warmest Year on Record

The year 2020 ended as the second warmest on record with a 24-hour adjusted mean temperature of 51.3F, which was 3.7F warmer than the 120-year (1891-2010) long-term mean and 2.4F above the 30-year (1981-2010) normal. Small Local Earthquake Observed on November 8th

Shortly after 9 AM EST on Sunday, November 8th, 2020 a small 3.6 magnitude earthquake shook parts of southeastern New England. The epicenter was about 6.2 miles below ground under Buzzard’s Bay and just offshore of Bliss Corner, in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. A period of unseasonably warm weather that arrived on Thursday, November 5th has brought several daily record high temperatures to the Observatory.
