CHILLY WITH A GUSTY NORTHWEST WIND ON THIS FIRST DAY OF
METEOROLOGICAL WINTER….
Skies have been clear for the most part today save for a period
of broken cloud cover during the mid morning hours. Despite the
chilly temperatures and gusty wind, it really isn’t a bad day at
all as we enjoy a respite between weather systems. Speaking of
which, yesterday’s frontal system brought 0.16″ of rain to Blue
Hill along with some gusty winds. Temperatures briefly pushed
into the upper 40s last evening before returning to more winter-
like readings by early this morning.
Temperatures have been generally seasonable today with readings
reaching the low 40s by early this afternoon after bottoming out
near freezing just after 7am. Dew point values have been holding
in the 20s today indicative of the colder air mass that over-
spread the region overnight.
The wind was stronger during the morning hours today, but has
since stepped back into early this afternoon. A generally west-
northwest wind has been averaging at around 13mph for the day so
far. Gusts were frequently exceeding 30mph overnight through the
mid-morning hours today, however they have eased quite a bit early
this afternoon. The peak gust for the day so far is 37mph, which
occurred just before 10am this morning.
Visibility has been excellent today, increasing from 50 miles
early this morning to around 70 miles for the balance of the day.
The maximum temperature so far today is 42F degrees, which is
3 degrees below the normal high of 45F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 32F degrees, which is 3 degrees above the
normal low of 29F.
