A SUMMERY FEEL TODAY WITH NEAR RECORD HEAT EARLY THIS AFTERNOON….

There are some mysterious white puffy formations out there
today in the sky. I believe the ancient observers used to
call them clouds! Skies have been mostly clear today, however
cumulus, and even cumulonimbus clouds have formed today thanks
to the abundant surface heating taking place. Thunderstorms have
been reported across parts of Worcester county, bringing with
them some much needed rainfall. Hopefully more communities will
be able to benefit from some rainfall this evening. Fingers
crossed.

Temperatures today have warmed easily into the upper 80s to
low 90s across the area. Here on the hill, officially we
made it to 90F for the first time this season. The record
high for today is 91F set in 1895. We have a good shot of at
least tying this record. Stay tuned.

In addition to the heat, humidity levels have been a bit
elevated as well with the dew point reaching the mid 60s for
a time late this morning, thus giving us a humid feel as well.

The wind has remained light today, with an average speed of
around 7mph. Winds have been variable throughout most of the
day, but has been attempting to go more toward a very feeble
seabreeze. So far, it’s having no impact on the temperature.

The visibility has been limited once again today due to general
haziness. Visibility started out this morning around 12 miles,
and has only improved to around 20 miles by early this afternoon.

The maximum temperature so far today is 90F, which is 19F
degrees above the normal high of 71F. The minimum temperature
so far since midnight is 63F, which is 10 degrees above the
normal low of 53F.

The month of May ended up being exceptionally sunny here at
Blue Hill. As a matter of fact, it was the sunniest May ever
recorded. It was also the 4th sunniest of any month here at
Blue Hill since 1886. Here is the updated ranking as compiled
by our Chief Scientist, Mike Iacono.
