AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS ATOP GREAT BLUE HILL….

Today started off partly cloudy with skies becoming much cloudier
as the day went on. The summit is now seeing storms from
the northwest in the hopes of making up some of this significant
rain deficit. Visibility was 30 miles on average due to haze.

Today was on the humid side with dew points in the upper 60’s.

Most of the Boston area is still in an extreme drought, while
the south shore and Cape are in a severe drought given the
rainfall that occurred a couple days ago.

The summit is at a monthly rain deficit of 1.91 inches, and
an annual deficit of 11.42 inches!

The storms passed over the hill between 3 P.M. and 4 P.M., with
periods of heavy rain and wind. The highest wind was about 40 mph,
and rainfall is estimated to be around three quarters of an inch!

The high so far today is 88F, which is 9 degrees above the normal
maximum of 79F. The low since midnight is 68F, which is 7 degrees
above the normal minimum of 61F.
