DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
SUNDAY, JUNE 21, 2015 FATHERS’ DAY
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME

REMNANTS OF BILL PROVIDE MORNING SOAKING
TROPICAL AIR REMAINS IN PLACE THIS AFTERNOON

Light rain began late yesterday evening and continued light for much of the
pre-dawn hours of this Fathers’ Day.  By sunrise, however, moderate to
occasionally heavy rain moved into the area.  The storm total for this event
so far is 1.18 inches of rain.  This rainfall is associated with the remnants
of Tropical Storm Bill, which made landfall in Texas early last week.  This
has eliminated our monthly precipitation deficit to date, although our yearly
deficit remains over three inches.

Rainfall let up by the mid-morning hours, and has stopped entirely at times,
but periodic light showers have continued into early afternoon.  Tropical air
remains in place as well, with dew points near 70F.  Temperatures have been
mirroring the dew point, and our high for the day so far is 70F.  Winds were
SSE for much of the morning but have shifted to SW early this afternoon,
running at about 10-15mph with a few gusts over 25mph this morning.  Visibility
has been under a mile for most of the day with fog, although clouds did lift
slightly above the summit at times allowing for brief periods of somewhat
higher visibility.

The summer solstice occurred at 12:38 P.M. EDT today, marking the official
start of astronomical summer.
