Yesterday’s maximum temperature of 82F, which came after the
1:00 PM EST observation, marks a return to above normal temperatures
that have become common this September. Today’s daily normal
maximum temperature of 72F was surpassed well before this morning’s
10:00 AM EST observation.
Clear conditions have been in place all day once again, with light
distant haze reducing visibility somewhat to 70 miles in all directions.
By the 1:00 PM EST observation skies had become more hazy with a very
light SSW wind. A maximum temperature of 83F had been recorded as well,
already 11 degrees above normal for this date. Today’s daily record
maximum of 91F, set back in 1939, 1941, appears to be safe to today;
however, tomorrow’s record of 86F, set in 1915, 1941 and 1991 may
be more vulnerable.
