EARLY MORING RAINFALL, CLOUDS, AND, FOG CLEAR OUT LEAVING US WITH
PARTIAL SUNSHINE AND WARMER TEMPERATURES….
A warm front pushed through the region early this morning bringing
some much needed rainfall with it. 0.23″ of rain fell here on the
Hill, bringing the monthly total up to 0.76″. This is still a
whooping 4.38″ below normal to date, but it was enough to move the
ranking for driest October from 4th place to 6th place.
Once the rain and fog cleared out this morning, gradual thinning of
the clouds commenced with all the low clouds dissipating by late
morning. However, a layer of cirrus clouds remain thus giving us
filtered sunshine through the afternoon.
Temperatures slowly rose through the 50s this morning, finally
shooting through the 60s to the low 70s by mid afternoon. And just
like that, we’re back above normal in the temperature department
after a few cooler days. The dew point has also been rising, from
the low 50s early this morning to the upper 50s this afternoon.
Winds were gusty early this morning, but have since decreased as
the day has progressed. A south-southeast wind this morning gradually
veered to the south-southwest and southwest by early this afternoon.
The average speed for the day so far is around 11mph. The peak gust
for the day 28mph, which occurred around 3:14am this morning.
Visibility started the day very limited with a view of only around
1/16th of a mile thanks to the dense fog (being in the clouds). But
it has gradually increased through the day as the fog dissipated,
reaching around 25 miles by early this afternoon.
The maximum temperature so far today is 70F, which is 14 degrees
above the normal high of 56F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 46F, which is 7 degrees above the normal low of 39F.
As mentioned above, the month of October is currently ranking as 6th
driest on record. Here is a list of rankings as compiled by our Chief
Scientist Mike Iacono.
