COASTAL STORM FINALLY DEPARTED, FILTERED SUNSHINE WITH MILDER
TEMPERATURES TODAY….
The coastal storm finally ended late last night leaving a storm
total rainfall of 3.54″ here at Blue Hill. This was definitely
much needed rainfall that was beneficial since it was a long
duration event as opposed to a quick hitting downpour. The monthly
surplus is just over 2″ through today, but we are still hanging on
to a deficit for the year, although that has come down to under
1 inch for the time being.
Today is featuring a lot of cloud cover, with some sunshine
filtering through, especially during the morning hours. Clouds
did increase in both coverage and density for a time as a weak
frontal boundary pushed through.
With some sunshine and a wind no longer off the ocean, temperature
readings recovered today into the lower 60s. After a few days
of a damp and raw chill, it feels rather nice out there early this
afternoon. Dew point values remained somewhat elevated during the
morning, but are now dropping off early this afternoon as some
cold air advection is taking place following the frontal passage.
Readings have dropped from low to mid 50s into the mid 40s so far.
Winds diminished markedly overnight and through this morning, but
have picked up early this afternoon once again during and after
the frontal passage. A generally north to north-northwest flow has
been the theme today, so far averaging at around 9mph for the
day. There was some sporadic gustiness at times this morning, but
it has become much more prevalent this afternoon. The peak gust
so far for the day is 30mph, which occurred just before 12:15pm
this afternoon.
Visibility has improved today, from 40 miles during the morning
hours upto 70 miles early this afternoon following the frontal
passage.
The maximum temperature so far today is 62F degrees, which is
1 degree above the normal high of 61F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 50F degrees, which is 6 degrees above the
normal low of 44F.
