CHILLY CONDITIONS RETURN DESPITE SUNNY SKIåES…
Due to the passage of a cold front last evening, the warm
conditions we experienced yesterday were short lived, and
we have returned to below-normal territory for today. The high
so far of 48F occurred at midnight, and with continued cold air
advection from the northwest it appears unlikely we will
surpass it. Otherwise, skies cleared up this morning, with
cirrus advancing from the west by early afternoon ahead of
our next storm system.
Temperatures dropped from the upper 40s around midnight to the
mid 30s by sunrise, and have slowly rebounded into the low 40s by
early afternoon. This air mass is also very dry, as indicated by the
dew point hovering around 20F throughout the day.
Winds have continued to be relatively strong, with our peak so far
of 39 mph around 4:15am. The average speed is at 15mph, and the
prevailing direction has been from the northwest.
Visibility has improved markedly compared to yesterday, with views
this morning of 60 miles improving to 80 miles by this afternoon,
largely thanks to this dry air mass currently in place.
The maximum temperature so far today is 48F, which is 5 degrees
below the normal high of 53F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 34F, which is 2 degrees below the normal low of 36F.
