RECORD WARM TEMPERATURES WITH PLENTY OF BRIGHT SUNSHINE….

The story today is of course the very warm temperatures for this
time of year across the region. The temperature here at Blue Hill
has reached 80F early this afternoon, smashing the old record of
74F which was set just 2 years ago in 2022. 80F is also 1 degree
shy of tying the warmest November temperature of 81F, which was
set on November 2, 1950.

Today has featured plenty of sunshine with a gusty southwest to
west-southwest wind. Frequent gusts of 25-35mph have been occurring
today, with a peak gust of 39mph which actually occurred just after
1am this morning.

The other story is of course the continued dry conditions leading
to worsening drought. The official update from the Drought Monitor
will be tomorrow morning, but it’s likely going to show the
expansion of severe drought conditions across the area. We haven’t
recorded any precipitation so far in November, and have gone 7 days
(including today) with no precipitation, not even a trace. The
monthly departure is already around 3 quarters of an inch below
normal, and the annual departure has now surpassed an inch below
normal after having a maximum surplus of nearly 10 inches back in
the spring!

Visibility today has once again been somewhat limited due to
haziness. The view has been generally around 30-40 miles all day.

The maximum temperature so far today is 80F, which is 26 degrees
above the normal high of 54F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 59F, which is 22 degrees above the normal low of 37F.
