THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT PRECIPITATION EVENT OF THE MONTH…

The month has been rather dry, well, up until this current event
that is. Precipitation started last evening, briefly as snow,
then a mix of snow, sleet, and rain fell before finally changing
to all rain after 2am. We still did not achieve our first
measurable frozen, so the monthly and seasonal totals remain at
a trace for now.

Rain continued overnight, through this morning, and so far hasn’t
ended yet. The storm total liquid amount is 1.21″ as of the 1pm
observation.

The temperature had been gradually rising through the morning
hours, peaking in the low 50s just after noon time. However, upon
a wind shift just after 12:30pm, the temperature has begun to slip
back a bit into the upper 40s.

Winds were quite gusty overnight into early this morning, but
markedly diminished during the mid morning hours. Southeast was the
prevailing direction for the first half of the day, but shifted to
the north-northeast just after 12:30pm. The average speed so far
for the day is around 13mph. The peak gust is 38mph, occurring just
after 5:30 this morning.

Visibility has been limited today of course, due to the rain and
fog. The view was 10 miles early this morning, but nothing more
than a 1/4 mile has been observed since that time.

The maximum temperature so far today is 53F, which is 5 degrees
above the normal high of 48F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 33F, which is 1 degree above the normal low of 32F.
