COOL AND CLOUDY WITH AFTERNOON SUN TODAY AT BLUE HILL….

While there has been some blue in the sky, thick cloud cover
has prevented the sun from making a prominent role in the day.
Still though, the winds have been light and the air mass is
still rather dry, so cool and cloudy has been the theme for at
least the first half of the day.

Temperatures remained below freezing from around midnight until
around 9am this morning. Our overnight low was 27F and because of
this extended time of below freezing temperatures, we had ice on
Ponkapoag Pond for a second morning in a row. Temperatures did
recover a bit, though the dense cloud cover kept the area from
reaching the expected normals (at least by 1pm). Dew point values
started in the lower 20’s and increased to the lower 30’s by the
early afternoon.

The wind was a bit more steady during the overnight and early
morning hours, averaging around 10mph out of the North. By the
midmorning, the wind shifted to a more easterly flow and winds
decreased rather sharply. The average speed for the day so far
is around 9mph. The peak gust for the day so far is 16mph,
which occurred just at 2:20am this morning.

Visibility has been great today, starting at around 80 miles
early this morning before fluctuating between 60-70 miles for
the remainder of the day.

The maximum temperature so far today is 45F degrees, which is
4 degrees below the normal high of 49F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 27F degrees, which is 5 degrees below the
normal low of 32F.
