FIRST TASTE OF WINTER ATOP BLUE HILL…
Today we received our first wintry precipitation of the season,
with ice pellets mixing with rain briefly between 9 and 10am
this morning, only accumulating to a trace. Otherwise, there
has been a raw feel with much cooler than normal temperatures,
a gentle breeze, and a largely cloud-filled sky.
The temperature began the day in the upper 30s, and stubbornly
hovered there until reaching the low 40s by early afternoon.
The dew point has remained fairly steady all day in the low to
mid 30s.
The wind remains sluggish today, with an average so far of
9mph. It began the morning by coming from the ENE off the ocean,
but by late morning had backed to the NNW. The peak gust of 23mph
occurred just before 5:30am.
Visibility has been good, beginning at 40 miles and rising
to 70 miles by this afternoon. The only limitation was virga late
morning limiting it to 15 miles to the east.
The maximum temperature so far today is 42F, which is 13 degrees
below the normal high of 55F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 37F, which is 1 degree below the normal low of 38F.
