COOL AND DRY DAY WITH EXCELLENT VISIBILITY AFTER YESTERDAY’S RAIN….
It was a pleasant day at the top of Great Blue Hill with sunshine and much cooler and drier air. Last night, the temperatures dipped to a low of 52F, which is 7F below the normal low temperature of 59F for this time of the year. So far today, the maximum temperature has reached 71F. Yesterday, 84F was the maximum temperature, which is 7F above the normal maximum of 77F. Overall, yesterday’s average temperature was 3F warmer than normal, but today is expected to continue to be cooler than normal.
Yesterday, 0.68 ins. fell as showers and thunderstorms passed through New England in the afternoon and evening. A peak gust of 30 MPH out of the northwest was observed at 1:39 P.M. EST, just before the rain began. Despite the substantial rainfall, we still have received 1.32 ins. less rain than normal so far for the month of June at the Observatory.
The air has dried out today and the visibility has increased to 80 miles. Dew points have dropped down into the mid 40Fs, and by the 1:00 P.M. observation, the relative humidity was at only 42%. A layer of broken cumulus moved in by the afternoon, but the sun has still been shining for most of this beautiful day.
