RETURN TO SEASONAL TEMPERATURES ON A CLEAR DAY…

Following an eventful day that bore witness to an exceptionally high
max temperature of 54 F in the morning hours, yesterday’s strong
northwesterly winds have produced temperatures that so far, appear
to be much more consistent with the seasonal expectation.  In contrast,
the strong winds have since died down, with light winds less than
10 KTS comprising the majority of the observation period.  Yesterday’s
wind speed totals proved to be impressive, with a daily average of
21.2 MPH and a peak gust of 53 MPH.  Additionally, speeds sustained
an hourly average of 30 MPH for the 12th hour of the day (11 A.M to
12 P.M.).  This prompted the return to seasonal temperatures, bottoming
out at 24 F at 7 A.M. this morning.  However, it should be noted that this
temperature still runs 5 degrees higher than the seasonal average
minimum of 19 F. Continuing yesterday’s trend, rising pressure has set
up a clear day with excellent visibility extending into the afternoon hours.
