CLOUDY AND COLD ONCE AGAIN TODAY, OCEAN EFFECT SNOW DEVELOPS….
Skies have been cloudy once again today as the first of two storm
systems passed to the south of the region overnight. The wind has
how veered from the west-southwest to the east during the course
of this morning. This easterly flow is now bringing some light
ocean effect snow into the area, which started just after 10am this
morning. So far, it’s been light enough that it’s not accumulating
despite temperatures remaining at or below freezing.
The temperature did reach the freezing mark briefly late this
morning, but has fallen back a bit to the upper 20s to around 30F.
This is still below normal for today’s date. Dew point values have
been rising steadily from the mid teens early this morning to the
mid to upper 20s by early this afternoon thanks to the onshore flow.
The wind gradually veered from the west-southwest with rather light
speeds, through north, and then finally east with increasing speeds.
The average speed for the day so far is around 8mph, but it’s been
averaging closer to 10-15mph over the past couple of hours. Gusts
have gotten into the 20s, with a peak gust so far of 29mph occurring
at 11:26am.
Visibility has been limited today, first due to haziness, and then
due to thin fog and light snow. The view started the day around 30
miles, but has dropped to only around 10-15 miles with the light
snow falling.
The maximum temperature for today is 32F degrees, which is 4 degrees
below the normal high of 36F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 24F degrees, which is 5 degrees above the normal low of 19F.
