CHRISTMAS EVE TURNS WINTRY AS SNOW AND COLD AIR SETTLE IN
TODAY….
We had some additional accumulation yesterday evening on the
hill, bringing us 0.8 inches of snow with 0.19 inches of liquid
equivalent. This morning we started with some sunshine and by
the late morning another round of snow made it to the area.
So far, we only have a trace of snow and 0.01 inches of liquid,
but temperatures are continuing to drop so the accumulation
may build.
Temperatures were ‘warmer’ in the mid morning hours, but have
decreased a bit in the past couple of hours. Dew point values
have remained in the lower 30’s and humidity has been near 100%
for much of the day. The blustery NNW winds have made it feel
even colder, with wind chills in the upper teens and lower 20’s.
The wind has been quite active today with the arrival of the
cold front, really picking up after 9am. Winds have been out
of the northwest and north-northwest for much of the day. We
have had frequent gusts in the 20-30mph range. The average
speed for the day so far is around 16mph. The peak gust is an
impressive 49mph, occurring at 10:14am this morning.
Visibility was in the 40 mile range for the day until the snow
showers moved in, which then brought us to only around 5 miles
of total visibility.
The maximum temperature so far today is 35F degrees, which is
3 degrees below the normal high of 38F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 31F degrees, which is 8 degrees above the
normal low of 23F.
