MAINLY SUNNY AND CHILLY ON THIS HALLOWEEN AT BLUE HILL…

Skies have mainly featured plenty of sunshine as early morning
clouds moved offshore, being replaced by a few diurnal strato-
cumulus clouds early this afternoon.

The temperature finally dropped below the 40F degree mark during
the wee hours of this morning. The minimum temperature so far
for today is 35F (34.9F) degrees, and this set a new record for
the latest temperature below 40F here at Blue Hill.

Here are the updated rankings.

BHO Latest First Minimum Temperature Below 40 deg F (1885-2023):

1) 31 October 2023 (35F)
2) 24 October 2013 (36F)
24 October 2021 (37F)
4) 22 October 1955 (34F)
5) 21 October 2005 (39F)
6) 20 October 1960 (38F)
7) 19 October 2014 (39F)

Readings have only recovered to the mid to upper 40s early this
afternoon. Dew point readings have been in the mid to upper 20s
all day today, so this definitely adds a marked chill to the air.
Today feels more like mid November than late October!

The wind was steady overnight, but decreased markedly during the
morning hours. The average speed for the day thus far is around
9mph, but again, the trend is downward. The peak gust is around
24mph, which occurred just after midnight.

Visibility has been exceptional all day with the view holding at
around 80 miles. This is due to the rather dry airmass over the
region today.

The maximum temperature so far today is 48F, which is 8 degrees
below the normal high of 56F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 35F, which is 4 degrees below the normal low of 39F.
