A MIX OF SUN AND CLOUDS WITH WARM AIR AND LIGHT WIND….
We were treated to a not too common complete undercast this
morning as dense fog was trapped under an inversion. Blue Hill
was high enough to be above this inversion. So while many were
waking up to fog, we were experiencing a nice early morning
with sunshine here on the summit. We could see only the tops of
about 5 skyscrapers in Boston as we looked north, with other
hill tops around the region looking like islands among a sea
of clouds! It was a really surreal sight!
The fog burned off by late morning and then everyone has been
able to share in the splendor of the day. Only some high thin
cirrus clouds are decorating the sky, thus allowing for abundant
sunshine. Temperatures have likewise responded with readings
getting to the low-mid 70s for many.
With a dew point hovering in the upper 50s to around 60, it
does feel a tad sticky, but compared to all the humidity this
summer, it’s really not bad at all.
The wind has been very light today, only averaging around 4mph
for the day. The peak gust so far has only been 12 mph! As high
pressure slips off the Mid Atlantic coast, the wind has backed
from north this morning to south this afternoon. I suspect
speeds may pick up a bit for a time this evening.
Visibility has been limited today, this morning due to fog, and
this afternoon due to haziness. We were able to see 20 miles
this morning above the inversion, but has improved to only
around 40 miles this afternoon.
The high so far today is 73F, 11 degrees above the normal max of
62F. The low since midnight is 54F, 9 degrees above the normal
low of 45F.
