WINDY AND COLD TODAY AS AN ARCTIC AIR MASS MOVES INTO THE AREA…

A period of clouds early this morning was associated with an
arctic boundary which moved across the region during the mid
morning hours. This boundary arrived here at Blue Hill at
around 9:45am this morning, at which time we saw a sudden
uptick in wind speeds and gusts, as well as a sharp drop in
the dew point.

Once this boundary passed, the skies did clear out for the
most part with mainly sunny skies left in its wake. However
the temperature has only been able to struggle to the upper
30s early this afternoon. These readings are a good 7-10
degrees below the normal high for today! As mentioned, the dew
point has plummeted, going from the mid 20s early this morning
to the upper single digits by early this afternoon.

The wind has been busy as well, really picking up in the strong
cold air advection behind the arctic boundary. Gusts of 35-40mph
have been frequent since the mid morning hours. The peak gust so
far is 41mph, occurring just after 11am this morning. The average
speed for the day is around 14mph to this point.

Visibility has been excellent today with the view generally
between 70-80 miles!

The maximum temperature so far today is 38F degrees, this is
8 degrees below the normal high of 46F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 31F, this is 1 degree above the normal low
of 30F.
