FILTERED SUNSHINE, BUT MUCH COOLER AND BRISK TODAY ON BLUE HILL…
Sunshine has been the theme today, however it’s been filtered
by a combination of some high thin cirrus clouds, and wildfire
smoke aloft being advected over the region from fires in the
Alberta province of Canada. The smoke was thick enough for a
time after sunrise, that the sun looked like a dim red disk in
the sky.
Despite the sunshine, temperatures are much cooler today thanks
to an onshore flow. Readings have only made it to the upper 50s
early this afternoon, after a morning low in the mid 40s.
The wind started off fairly light out of the north early this
morning, then veered through the northeast to the east by this
afternoon. Speeds also increased with a brisk flow coming in
off the ocean. The average speed for the day has been around
8mph thus far since midnight, but closer to 10mph since 7am this
morning. The highest gust so far has been around 23mph.
Visibility has been decent all day with views of around 60 miles.
The maximum temperature so far today is 59F, this is 6 degrees
below the normal high of 65F. The low since midnight is 45F,
which is 1 degree below the normal low of 46F.
