COOL AND DRY WITH INCREASING SUNSHINE ON BLUE HILL….

Today has been a splendid one if you are one of those who
don’t like the heat and humidity. A mainly cloudy sky was
the theme this morning, however they’ve gradually pushed
out of the area leaving us with abundant sunshine since
late this morning.

Onshore flow has kept temperatures on the cool side however,
with readings struggling through the 50s this morning to
reach the low to mid 60s early this afternoon. The dew point
has been in the upper 30s to lower 40s, so the air has an
added chill to it thanks to the dry air mass.

As mentioned the wind has been onshore all day, with east-
northeast the prevailing direction so far. The wind was
gusty early this morning with a peak of 30mph recorded just
before 3 A.M. However speeds have eased some as the day has
progressed. The average speed for the day so far is around
11mph.

Visibility has been very good all day holding around 70
miles.

The lack of rainfall is really starting to become concerning
with the Drought Monitor now having eastern Massachusetts
and Rhode Island classified as abnormally dry. The rainfall
deficits here on the hill are running -1.97″ for the month,
and is now -4.47″ for the year to date.

The high so far today is 62F, which is 7 degrees below the
normal maximum of 69F. The low since midnight is 51F, which
is equal to the normal minimum of 51F.
