POWERFUL NOR’EASTER BRINGING COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF PRECIPITATION
AND STRONG WINDS…
The storm that started innocently yesterday afternoon, continues
today with much more fanfare. The amount of precipitation that
has fallen is quite bountiful, with a storm total through 1pm EST
of 3.10″. Most of this has fallen as rain. Snow started mixing in
between 9-10am this morning, and finally switched to all snow
between 11am-12pm. By the 1pm observation today, 0.9″ of snow
had accumulated on the snowboards.
The temperature, which was holding in the upper 30s through the
night right up until the late morning hours, has now dropped
to around freezing with the snow falling.
Winds have been gusty all day, but are really starting to ramp
up this afternoon as the low pressure gets captured by an upper
low and begins to back in toward the coast. Gusts of 45-50mph
have occurred early this afternoon with an increasing trend.
We’ll see just how high the winds get when they peak during the
evening hours.
The high so far today is 39, which is 4 degrees below the normal
maximum of 43F. The low temperature since midnight is 32F, which
is 6 degrees above the normal low of 26F.
