ARCTIC FRONT MOVES THROUGH WITH STRONG COLD AIR ADVECTION BEHIND IT…

A mix of sun and clouds were the theme this morning as an arctic
front approached the area. The front moved through between 10-11am
accompanied by a few light snow showers. Following the frontal
passage, strong cold air advection took over with temperatures
leveling off in the mid 30s and a very strong gusty northwest wind
taking over.

Temperatures made it to the mid 30s before the cold air advection
took over. Readings have leveled off for a bit, but is now falling
off and was in the low 30s by the 1pm observation. More notable
is the drop in the dew point, which rose to the low 20s just ahead
of the front, but has now fallen to the single digits by early this
afternoon.

The wind is the biggest story, and also a surprise as we’ve had gusts
exceed 60mph. The wind started the day out of the southwest, but has
now shifted to the northwest following the frontal passage. The average
speed for the day so far is 19mph, but the average for the past couple
of hours has been closer to 25mph! The peak gust so far is 65mph which
occurred at 11:53am.

Visibility was between 40-50 miles during the morning, dropping a bit
lower for a time thanks to the snow showers off to the west and
northwest. Behind the front however, the visibility has increased to
around 80 miles.

The maximum temperature for today is 36F degrees, which is 2 degrees
above the normal high of 34F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 31F degrees, which is 14 degrees above the normal low of 17F.
