DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
TUESDAY, JANUARY 1, 2019
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME
WARM TEMPERATURES AND STRONG WINDS START OFF THE NEW YEAR…
This morning, an exceptionally high temperature of 54F was
recorded during the 10 A.M. observation. While this value
approached the daily record high of 58F, reaching this looks
unlikely to happen, as winds shifting northwesterly this
morning have begun to shuttle in cold air from the north.
Despite clearing skies, elevated wind speeds continue to
enforce advective cooling throughout the region, with
temperatures slowly declining since the 10 A.M. observation.
So far today, peak gusts of up to 53 MPH have been recorded.
Pressure readings began the day with significantly low
readings in the wake of last night’s storm, with a station
pressure of 974.9 MB recorded at 7 A.M., with the
corresponding sea level pressure clocking in at 999.0 MB.
Since then, pressure has been on the rise, helping to
produce clear skies and excellent visibility for the
afternoon hours. Rainfall totaling 0.81 inches was recorded
at 7 A.M. this morning, ending 2018 and beginning 2019 with
a substantial precipitation event.
