ANOTHER MILD DAY WITH INCREASING WIND AS COLD AIR ADVECTION BEGINS…
Today has featured varying amounts of scattered to broken cloud cover,
but overall we’ve seen plenty of sunshine throughout the day. Cold air
advection, which lagged behind a cold frontal passage that took place
early this morning, finally started in earnest by late this morning as
marked by increasing wind and decreasing dew point values.
The overnight temperatures didn’t even make it down to freezing for the
first time since January 1st! The low this morning was 33F, which is
15 degrees above the expected value for the date. Readings warmed
to the low 40s before the cold advection took over. Temperatures have
since fallen back to the mid 30s. Dew point values were in the low
30s this morning, but have now dropped into the teens this afternoon,
indicating the return of arctic air.
Winds have really ramped up as well since this morning. A west-
northwest to northwest wind has increased from 10-15mph early this
morning to 20-25mph this afternoon. The average speed overall for the
day is around 14mph to this point. Gusts are frequently exceeding 35mph
with a peak gust for the day so far of 47mph which occurred at 1:33pm.
Visibility is excellent today, rising from 40 miles early this morning
to around 70 miles by the mid morning hours.
The maximum temperature for today is 41F degrees, which is 6 degrees
above the normal high of 35F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 33F degrees, which is 15 degrees above the normal low of 18F.
