ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME

VERY WARM OVERNIGHT INTO THIS MORNING, COOLING AND
TURNING DRIER THIS AFTERNOON….

What a storm yesterday afternoon into the overnight.
Strong winds and heavy rain were the theme along with
very warm temperatures (for this time of year).

Temperatures overnight rose to 62 degrees by midnight,
and held there for a few hours before slowly dropping
back into the upper 50s early this morning. The
temperature and dew point have started to fall off
markedly early this afternoon as cold air advection,
on a south-southwest wind, has begun. An odd wind
direction for cold air advection, but is common with
a strong storm system moving northward off to our west.

After a period of rather light winds this morning, they
have increased this afternoon with gusts surpassing
40 MPH!

Rainfall from the storm totaled 1.96 inches, which
should have really put a dent in the drought conditions.

The big story of course was the strong wind gusts from
yesterday. We recorded an official peak gust of 81 MPH
from the SSE at 4:38 P.M.

This gust represents the highest gust officially recorded
since 85 MPH on January 18, 2006. Yesterday’s high wind
event also represents the 4th time this year we’ve had a
peak gust of 70 MPH or higher. The last time this happened
was back in 2002!

The 81 MPH gust is the 8th highest wind gust recorded for
the month of November dating back to 1940. Here is a list
of the current rankings…

BHO Highest November Wind Gusts, mph (1940-2020)

1) 96 mph, SSE on 3 Nov 1951
2) 94 mph, E on 25 Nov 1950
3) 90 mph, SSW on 28 Nov 1958
90 mph, SSW on 30 Nov 1963
5) 86 mph, SSE on 29 Nov 1963
6) 83 mph, S on 10 Nov 1942
7) 83 mph, SW on 29 Nov 1960
8) 81 mph, SSE on 30 Nov 2020

Statistics above provided by our Chief Scientist, Mike Iacono.

The high so far today is 62F, 18 degrees above the daily
normal high of 44F. The low since midnight is 58F, 29 degrees
above the normal low of 29F.
