SIX-DAY HEAT WAVE ENDING WITH THUNDERSTORMS, STILL VERY HUMID….

The hot and humid weather has entered the 6th day today with the
mercury reaching a maximum of 97F degrees. But thankfully a
thunderstorm moved through this afternoon dropping the
temperature back to the upper 70s for a time, but it has now
recovered to the low 80s.

What the thunderstorm also did was increase the dew point. I
took a special reading at 2pm EST (3pm EDT) and the dew point
was 78F! This is one of the highest dew points I’ve seen around
this area. Definitely oppressive.

The dew point has been in the 70s all day, earlier creating heat
index values between 100F and 105F for a time! The number of days
of this high heat is starting to get to most people at this point.
This is the second week-long heat-wave in just a 3 week period of
time.

As mentioned yesterday, we’ve been setting or tying some records
during this stretch. Here they are…

8/4: High max of 96F, this beat the old record of 95F set in 1928
8/6: High max of 95F, this tied the record with 1931
High min of 72F, this tied the record with 1918 and 1924
8/7: High max of 96F, this beat the old record of 95F set in 1924
High min of 73F, this tied the record with 2018
8/8: High max of 97F, this beat the old record of 93F set in 1909
and 1949
High min of 75F, this beat the old record of 74F set in 2001
8/9: High min of 77F (so far), should this hold, it will beat
the old record of 75F set in 2001

The high so far today is 97F, which is 16 degrees above the normal
maximum of 81F. The low since midnight is 77F, which is 13 degrees
above the normal minimum of 64F.
