BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA
TUESDAY, AUGUST 11, 2020
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME
ANOTHER HAZY, HOT, AND HUMID DAY WITH A PASSING
THUNDERSTORM….
Hot and humid weather continues on what is day 3 of
90+ temperatures, and thus officially a heat wave.
This marks only the second heat wave of the summer
for the summit of Blue Hill, while surrounding areas
have had at least 3 so far this warm season.
A thunderstorm passed about 6-8 miles to the south
and southeast of the Observatory between 11:29 A.M.
and 12:30 P.M. Thunder could be heard and even
observed a few distant lightning bolts, however we
were not close enough to get any rain from it.
Nonetheless, today will go down as a thunderstorm day.
Otherwise sunshine mixed with cumulus, towering cumulus
and high thin cirrus clouds has been the theme today.
The dewpoint has hovered in the upper 60s to low 70s
making it feel rather miserable outside.
The rainfall deficit continues to grow, with the
month now 1.22 inches below normal, and the year
dropping to 3.14 inches below normal.
The high so far today is 92F, which is 12 degrees
above the daily normal high of 80F. The low since
midnight is 72F, which is 9 degrees above the daily
normal low of 63F.
