OVERCAST SKIES AND COOLER TODAY FOLLOWING EARLY MORNING
THUNDERSTORMS….

An area of thunderstorms moved through the region early this
morning bringing Blue Hill its first thunderstorm day of the
year. Rainfall for the “event” totaled 0.58″, 0.30″ of which
fell within 1 hour between 4-5am. The activity moved out by
the 7am observation, and skies have been cloudy since, although
they have been thinning a bit in the last hour or so.

Temperatures are much cooler than yesterday with readings
only reaching the mid to upper 50s so far. This is due largely
to the lack of sunshine as well as the onshore flow.

The wind has generally been on the light side, but occasionally
does get a little gusty. The average speed has been around
8mph for the day so far, again mainly out of an easterly
direction, but it has become more southerly in the last hour
or so. The peak gust for the day so far is 23mph, which occurred
just after 12:30pm.

Visibility has been gradually improving as the day progresses,
from around 30 miles early this morning to around 50 miles by
early this afternoon.

The maximum temperature so far today is 58F degrees, which is
5 degrees below the normal high of 63F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 47F degrees, which is 4 degrees above the
normal low of 43F.
