FILTERED SUNSHINE THROUGH MAINLY HIGH CLOUDS, TURNING BREEZY AND
WARM HERE AT BLUE HILL…

The dry stretch of weather continues as we’ve not recorded any
rainfall in the last 5 days. The precipitation departure has
now slipping into a pretty sizable deficit for the month to
date, with us being more a 1.25″ below normal.

With the abnormally warm temperatures occurring this week, and
the continued low relative humidity, the ground will continue
to dry out at a rapid clip. This will markedly increase the fire
danger through the week. A Red Flag Warning has been issued
for this reason.

Speaking of abnormally warm, we have reached the mid 70s today.
This is the first time since back on November 12th that we’ve
seen a temperature of 70F or higher. The dew point has dropped
into the low 20s, yielding a relative humidity of 14% early this
afternoon. These are pretty arid values for this part of the
country.

The wind has become quite gusty this afternoon out of the west.
The peak gust so far is around 35mph. The average speed for the
day so far is around 12mph.

Visibility has been gradually improving from around 35 miles
this morning to 60 miles early this afternoon.

The high so far today is 75F, which is 21F degrees above the
normal maximum of 54F. The low since midnight is 45F degrees,
which is 9 degrees above the normal minimum for the day of 36F.
